Okay, so am I the only one that thinks free roam was a huge disappointment? Here I expected to be able to roam the frontiers with my friends, play through the storyline, or at least something like it, rob banks, rob trains, gamble, basically do everything I can do in single player. Instead, all I'm able to do is ride around and shoot at the law/animals, which I can't even skin? What's the point of getting money? I haven't found one thing I can buy.

You can posse up and take out gang hideouts. I did it with 2 other people last night, tonight it will probably be around 10 of us. Maybe more if anyone wants to join.
Last night we got into bar fights, hilarious. Tested out many things like fighting the law. You have to remember, they haven't come out with real co-op yet. Free Roam is the same thing as it is in GTA 4. Couldn't buy weapons but you can pick them up and anything you do in Free Roam goes toward ranking you up to get stuff. Just posse up and attack a bunch of Gang hideouts. Free Roam lets you visit the whole place like you did in GTA 4 with the whole city.

The DLC is comming out shortly, hopefully that will enable bank robbing, train hi-jacking, etc.

There is a lot you can't do in free roam... but it is still fun to me... there are a bunch of challenges you have to do to level up... right now I have to kill 5 wolves and one must be with a knife...

i can't blame you mmmaaarrgarrreettteeeee ( that was fun to type) , i really enjoyed the free roam but i can understand how it could be kind of underwhelming considering how much the singeplayer allows. i think the co-op DLC should help things a bit and hopefully rockstar continues to make additions so that we have more to do. i have to admit i wish there was more npc interaction though, i thought we may be able to buy and sell things to store or when we hunted we could actually collect the animal pelts/ feathers/etc. it's still quite enjoyable imo

I guess the "Real Deal" resides in SP. Which is mostly why I'm buying RDR.

Well we had about 11 Ghosts on the same server today in free roam and it was a blast. Don't sell it short just yet. And if your friend has done all the challenges and is at level 50 already then I tip my hat to him. I have played non stop for 2 days and I am like level 11. It took me 2 hours just to find a rabbit I needed.

ranks are just 1-50... there really are no names for them. You get different things as you rank up... characters, weapons, mounts and titles. In order to rank up, you have to gain XP. You gain XP by doing just about anything, though some things bring more than others. Killing an npc will only get you 1xp. Killing an npc lawman will get you 5xp. Doing challenges ranks you faster and doing gang hideouts even faster.

Yup, not as the reviews suggested. Still a great game, just disappointed. Wanted to play the mini-games in Free Roam, skin animals and, thus, sadly, it does not appear this is possible (riding horses and taking out hideouts are certainly a blast of course). We'll see ifthey'll add more later. Also, the game is currently glitchy in spots (avatars/horses disappear while you are moving around or riding your mount-kills the immersion and needs to be fixed. I bought the game for a few friends and was embarrassed by this). Lost connections/received connection errors quite a bit (both PSN and 360).

I just asked him what he had and hadn't done yet and he said he'd already done most of the hideouts and a lot of the challenges

If he is rank 17 then he hasn't done a lot of the challenges. There are so many. They don't even show up until you do something to trigger them. Like I got a $2000 bounty on my head which opened up all of these outlaw challenges I didn't even know were there. To some people, this might get repetitve. There are times the challenges seem harder than they need to be. Like I needed to kill a rabit and I couldn't find it for 2 hours. It is a lot easier if you have someone helping you.
There is a lot I wish we could do in freeroam but I am having fun none the less. I think once everyone gets settled down and we start doing some of the made up games I am planning on doing (like the historical gunfights) and the coop comes out, it will be very fun.
